Law has many functions in society. Manifest functions are the obvious, intended functions, and latent functions are the unattended and not-so-obvious functions, or consequences of law. Some latent functions of law can prove dysfunctional. This means they can exacerbate the original problem the law intended to address or create new social problems.
For this week’s discussion board question, please offer one example of a law (municipal, state, or federal) and describe the unattended and dysfunctional consequence of that law. This week’s readings offered a few examples. Please describe a law that was not included in any of the readings. Please make sure your post is at least 150 words and cite your source of information. For this discussion board, you are not required to respond to any of your classmate’s post.
Good luck!
